Urinary incontinence is a condition that mostly affects seniors. When we get older, the muscles in and around the bladder and pelvis weaken, which causes incontinence. For seniors with mobility limitations, incontinence becomes an even greater problem. They might need toileting and incontinence care.
As a trusted provider of senior care services in Pennsylvania, we want to share with you the different types of urinary incontinence as identified by the National Institute on Aging:
- Stress Incontinence
This type of incontinence happens when pressure is applied to the bladder. Pressure can be caused by sneezing, coughing, laughing, doing exercises, or lifting heavy objects. Our elderly hygiene care can help seniors maintain their hygiene as they manage their incontinence.
- Urge Incontinence
This occurs when a person feels the sudden urge to urinate but cannot control their bladder to hold it long enough to go to the toilet. Seniors who have diabetes or Alzheimer’s disease are at a higher risk of this type of incontinence.
- Functional Incontinence
This happens when seniors have normal bladder control but because of mobility limitations cannot go to the toilet to relieve themselves on time. Our home care in New Hope, Pennsylvania, includes toileting and incontinence care to assist seniors with this type of incontinence.
Barnaby’s Home Health Care offers home care services to assist seniors living independently and healthily. Our ADL assistance can help seniors with their daily tasks to ensure or improve their cleanliness, health, mobility, and self-confidence.
